Ishime Bowl 2

Ishime (石目) means the texture of pebbles in Japanese. Toshiaki was inspired by pebbles when crafting this piece, and so created a rough outer surface which evokes the warmth of nature. The uneven and unglazed surfaces of Bizen Art pieces contribute to their rustic charm. The surface of a Bizen Art tableware piece will become smoother as it is used, encouraging one to contemplate how a piece of art attains new beauty when incorporated into daily life.
